I was chatting with a friend the other day about how kids these days are so privelleged. Mobile phones, Nintendo DS's, Tv's in their bedroom, the works. She brought up that her daughter is not yet 3 and has been overseas twice! My first time overseas (and even on a plane for that matter) was when I was 21!
Growing up for us, big exciting holidays were restricted to Victoria and with a caravan in tow. Queensland was a luxury that we never got to experience. These days, Queensland is common place and even mundane! Gee, times have changed.
Having said all of this, of course, we are heading to Sydney in a few weeks. We wanted a holiday and super-cheap flights became available so we snapped them up while Alex is still young enough for us not to have to pay for a seat. We became one of "those" families...one who flies to their destination, stays in a hotel, etc. Everything I never got to do as a kid
Megan will be either scared or excited by the plane trip and Alex wont quite be 2, and so probably wont remember any of it and will need photos to prove he was there! Possibly a waste of an interstate/aeroplane trip for him!
And who knows...we might revamp Mum and Dad's old caravan and take the kids holidaying...old style!
